







This one had 60 years worth of gravel buildup working against the homeowner. Layer after layer of different gravel types had piled up over the decades, and all that material was actually pushing rainwater straight toward the front of the house and into the doorway entry. That's a serious problem - not just an annoyance.
Before anything else, we stripped it all out. Every layer of old gravel came up, and we cut the entire area down to subgrade. From there, we installed NDS Spee-D drain assemblies and tied in all the gutter downspouts so that water from the roof and the surface is now captured and routed away from the house entirely - out to the front ditch line where it belongs. That's the kind of drainage work that actually solves the problem instead of just slowing it down.
With the drainage handled, we brought in RAP - recycled asphalt product - for the new driveway surface. RAP is a smart choice for situations like this. It compacts tight, holds up well, and costs less than virgin asphalt while still giving you a clean, solid surface. We spread, rolled, and compacted it into place using the Cat skid steer and a smooth drum roller, making sure everything was graded correctly to keep water moving away from the structure.
We also widened the original driveway and added extra parking area while we were at it. The customer went from a narrow gravel strip that was actively causing water damage to a wide, usable surface with real drainage infrastructure underneath it. That's a complete fix - not a patch job.
Projects like this come up a lot in our area. If water is pooling near your foundation or making its way toward your entry during rain, the gravel isn't the surface problem - it's the drainage underneath that needs attention first.
